Exciting Things Are Happening   1 comment

Exciting things are happening at the Keyse House!! Ok, so maybe nothing truly exciting, but we have been keeping busy (too busy to update this blog as regularly as we originally intended). So here is a quick update from us, just to keep you all in the know:

  • Millie formerly known as “lazy fetus” has officially been renamed “mover and shaker”. That’s right, she went from moving hardly at all to moving quite a lot! Her busy times are between 9:30 and 10:30 am and again around 7:30pm. Nate was even able to feel his first kick last week. It was a wonderful moment for all 3 of us!
  • We have really gotten into the search for childcare! This is quite an intimidating task, but we are confident that we will find the right place for Miss Millie.
  • Major Tom got a haircut (I had to mention something about our first born…) and looks adorable. He is also getting very excited about becoming a big brother.
  • Aunt Jennifer (also known as Jennifer Galietti, twin sister extraordinaire) will be visiting in just 2 weeks! She hasn’t seen Julie since Labor Day weekend; things have grown quite a bit since then! We are all excited for her visit.
  • We are now in the final days of the 2nd trimester. That’s right, the 3rd and FINAL trimester begins on Monday, January 31. Just over 12 more weeks to go…

So, that’s what is going on with us. We will have a “proper” blog entry for you to enjoy soon, but hopefully this will hold you over until then.

Who Will She Look Like?   5 comments

We were cleaning out our basement yesterday— a significantly overdue project. As we were sorting through the mass of goods we have accumulated since moving into our house 2.5 years ago, we came across a stash of pictures and wanted to share a couple with you.

First, we have a picture of baby Julie (and baby Jennifer, of course— it’s hard to find solo pictures of us, especially in the early days).

Julie was about 9 months old in this picture— that’s how old Millie will be this time next year! We wonder if she will look like her Mommy…

…Or maybe she’ll look more like her Daddy. Here is a family picture taken when Nathaniel was 6 months old.

And wondering who she’ll look like gets us wondering about other things too. Will she arrive before her due date like Julie did? We hope not. Julie was born 6 weeks early and weighed just 3lbs 13oz (if Millie makes her debut 6 weeks early, she’ll be arriving in just 8 weeks!). Of course, we’d also prefer that she not arrive past her due date, like her father did. Nate doesn’t know the specifics but guesses that he was 2 weeks late and weighed 7 lbs (Julie has a feeling that as an overdue baby, he probably weighed more than 7 lbs…). We’re hoping for an on-time baby. Both Julie and Nathaniel were in the hospital for an extended stay after birth; we REALLY hope Millie decides not to take after either parent in this regard! Julie was a GREAT sleeper, Nathaniel was not (guess who we’d rather her take after in this situation).

As we creep closer and closer to the final trimester of the pregnancy, we are getting more and more excited about meeting our little girl. This week, Julie finally started feeling Millie move quite a bit (she’s been a lazy fetus up to this point). Each week, as the kicks get stronger (soon Nate will be able to feel them too), we’re reminded that the countdown is on. We won’t have to wonder who she’ll look like for long.

Nursery Sneak-Peak   4 comments

We originally had BIG plans for Millie’s nursery. We were going to paint the walls a nice bright color, display a huge map of the United States on the feature wall and put up wall clocks set to different time zones (we thought it might make 2 am feedings more bearable). Nate was fortunate enough not to have to work the week between Christmas and the New Year, so we agreed that that would be a good time for him to do the bulk of the painting and furniture construction. Then, we changed the entire plan. We decided not to do anything very extravagant or overstimulating at all. Instead, we didn’t paint. That’s right, we just left the walls of the former office gray. I know what you’re thinking— GRAY? In a baby girl’s room? Heck yeah. It turns out gray is a nice, soothing color and it happens to look great with pink and white accents (besides, Nathaniel wasn’t thrilled about the idea of using his week off to paint). As for the giant map of the United States, it turns out those can be quite pricy. And, since we can’t imagine our baby complaining about the lack of a map in her room, we decided to skip the costly map and purchase a thrifty wall decal of a dandelion instead. Everything is turning out quite adorable so far. Check out a sneak-peak below:

See, the gray and pink look nice!

It’s kind of weird to have a nursery in our house. It’s nice too. It’s quickly turning into Julie’s favorite room in the house (it’s hard to resist those calming gray walls— we’re so glad we decided not to paint!). And, with less than 16 weeks until Millie is scheduled to make her debut, the nursery won’t be vacant for long.
