11 Months Old   Leave a comment

ImageMillie Louise is 11 months old today. I cannot believe that her first birthday is just one month away! My thoughts keep going back to how I was feeling this time last year… I know most people are uncomfortable during the last month of pregnancy, but from 36 weeks on, I felt GREAT. I was very excited to meet  my little girl. I was excited to hold her, to see her. I wondered whether or not she would have hair. I wondered how big (or little) she would be. And now, here we are 11 months later. Millie has changed so much over the past months. She pulls herself into a standing position on all of the furniture now. Nothing is safe in our house if it’s in Millie’s reach. The girl has a ton of toys, but finds coasters, remotes, books, and gunk on the floor MUCH more interesting. She likes to play in Major’s water bowl. She likes to open her mouth when Major walks by so that he can lick her in the mouth (she is so gross). She burps and farts like an adult. She still sleeps through the night like a champ (7 pm to 7am) but she doesn’t like her naps as much as she did before. Millie says hi, dada and, just today, she started trying to say dog. She waves hi and bye. She pounds her hand on the high chair tray when she wants more food (oh, and she is feeding herself now, too!). She LOVES babies (her little friends Luke— from church— and Jonathan and Cara— from the babysitter’s house— are her best buds). She wears size 3 diapers and mostly 12 month clothes. Millie squirms when we go to change her diaper and gives us BIG smiles when we first go into her room in the morning. She is a sweet, sweet baby and I am going to enjoy every moment of this next month as we quickly come to the close of her first, wonderful year.

Millie’s Hair   Leave a comment

Millie was born with a lot of dark hair. I remember that being the first thing I noticed when I first saw her. I just loved all that hair! As she’s grown, her hair has lightened to a pretty light brown color. It’s also grown a lot, but it did not grow out evenly. In fact, she had quite a mullet for a while.

Image(I know, this is a HORRIBLE picture of Mils, but I love it… the drool, the snot, the food on her face, the mullet… THIS is my baby.)

I had such a hard time deciding to cut her hair. For some reason I had it in my mind that I should wait until her first birthday before cutting her hair. Also, I was worried that somehow she would look worse if I cut it, but someone suggested that I just go ahead and trim it up. More specifically, Jennifer and I were Skyping one day and she lovingly referred to Millie’s hair as “awful” and basically made me promise that I would giver her a trim. I did and I must admit that she looks much less homeless now. Still, just because her hair is shorter does not mean she doesn’t have crazy hair days. For example, this past weekend, Millie woke up with a booger stuck in her hair. Yep, you read that right. A BOOGER. She has a runny nose (the teething nose as we so affectionately call it… tooth #5 is on its way) and while sleeping she must have wiped her nose and wiped a booger right into her hair. It was so gross. I gave her a bath with the hopes of washing the booger out of her hair with shampoo, but no luck. I actually had to cut the thing out. It’s like she’s just destined to be gross— first with the mullet, then with the booger hair. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
