Thankful   Leave a comment

Feeling very thankful today (job well done, Thanksgiving). Thankful to be married to Nate, the best partner I could hope for (6 year anniversary is just days away!). Thankful for Millie, the little girl I always wanted. Thankful for the excitement of a new baby to come. Thankful for my sister who is my best friend in the world. Thankful our extended family and for the fun we have when we’re together. Thankful for DAYS OFF FROM WORK! Thankful for the opportunity to make new traditions with my little family. Thankful for my church family. And, of course, thankful for food and lots of it. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Baby Boy at Almost 23 Weeks   Leave a comment

HOW CUTE IS THIS LITTLE GUY?!?!? This week, I had to go to my doctor and she ended up doing an internal exam just to make sure everything was ok. Turns out, I’m a little bit dilated… at not-quite 23 weeks. So, my doctor ordered an ultrasound to get a better idea of what was going on. Everything is fine (probably just a little “leftover” dilated from Millie’s delivery) and internally my cervix is “nice and closed.” After checking that, the ultrasound tech let me get a look at Baby Boy and, good heavens, he is cuuuuutttte. Cute little profile, cute little arms and legs… She even double checked that the boy parts we saw at the 20 week ultrasound were in fact boy parts— they are! The coolest part was feeling him move and watching the monitor as he moved. At one point, we saw his little hand come up by his face and he started sucking his thumb. ADORABLE.

I’m pretty crazy about this little guy already. Just 4 more months until my due date! Hopefully we can come up with a name for him in that time frame. Milie’s suggestion is “Dora” but I don’t think it suits him.

We’ll get another look at our little guy in about 5 more weeks to check and see if his choroid plexus cysts have resolved. They didn’t check for them yesterday, saying that they wouldn’t expect them to have resolved that quickly. From what I can tell, he looked pretty much perfect so I’m hopeful that the next ultrasound will go well and the rest of the pregnancy will be uneventful. Until then, I’m going to keep looking at this little profile shot and fall a little more in love with Baby Boy everyday.

Rough Night   Leave a comment

Tonight was a rough night. REALLY ROUGH. I leave for work early in the morning, before Millie wakes up, so I spend a lot of my day looking forward to coming home to see her. I walk in the door and she usually comes running to me saying “Mommy!” It’s amazing. The rest of the evening, however, can be very different. Sometimes, it’s great— she’s sweet and cuddly and playful and funny. Other times, like tonight, it’s one battle after another. She cries when she runs out of milk in her cup, she cries when we don’t refill said cup fast enough, she cries when she gets ketchup in her hair, she cries when I have to give her a bath to remove said ketchup. It can be exhausting and so disappointing. I sometimes wonder how we’ll survive with 2 kids! A lot of the time tonight Nate and I were both dealing with a tantrum at the same time. I’m sure we’ll figure it out, but it is scary (exhausting and overwhelming) to think about.

Anyway, on such a rough night, I thought it would be appropriate to write down some of the funny things Millie has done and said lately. She’s pretty good (and FUNNY) most of the time and it will do my heart good to remember that:

  • She jumps around and says “whoo-hoo!” I didn’t teach her that and it took me a while to realize she got it from her “Meet the Letters” dvd. It’s just this quick part where a character jumps and says “whoo-hoo” for literally 2 seconds. It cracks me up that she noticed this little insignificant moment and decided to copy it.
  • This morning, Nate gave Millie half a banana. She then saw the other half and requested it. Nate said “you can have that when you’re done with the first half.” Millie then threw the banana half she was holding.
  • Millie threw something the other night and I told her to say “I won’t throw things.” She said “ok, Mommy.” I said “No, Millie say ‘I'” She repeated “I.” Then I prompted “won’t throw”. She said “ok, mommy.”
  • I bought a potty chair for Millie the other night. I walked in, she saw it and said “wow!” She sat on it the rest of the night, moved it in front of a mirror so she could watch herself sit on it, and even attempted to take it to bed with her. I asked “do you want to put your pee-pee in there?” She looked disgusted, “No, Mommy.”
  • When I ask her to say hi to her brother, she usually goes over to Major (our dog) and gives him a hug.
  • Millie LOVES her Little Tikes slide. She has even hugged and kissed it in the morning before leaving for daycare! When I asked if she’s going to share with her brother, she gave me the major stink eye.

I wonder if anyone else thinks she’s as funny as Nate and I do. I wonder if I’m really capturing her adorable-ness. Probably not. She is super adorable. And sometimes has a bad night. (sigh) We all do. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day!

It’s a BOY!!   3 comments

My 20 week appointment was yesterday (already about halfway through this pregnancy). I was so excited for this appointment! I couldn’t wait to see the baby and find out the gender. Nate, Millie and I all were present for the big reveal— IT’S A BOY!! We’re so excited. He weighs about 12 ounces and his heart beat was 147 beats per minute. Everything on the anatomy scan looked good, but we are having another ultrasound in about 8 weeks to take another look at 2 cysts in his brain. Sounds SUPER scary, but my doctor told me not to worry, so I’m trying to follow his instructions. Prayers are appreciated. This baby boy is already very much loved and wanted and our hope is that our next ultrasound is reassuring that baby is healthy.

I know some parents that prefer to wait until delivery day to find out baby’s gender. I have NEVER been that parent. I feel like the gender is a surprise whether you learn it in the ultrasound room or the delivery room. With this baby, I wanted to be able to prepare Millie as much as possible, so I love that now we can talk about Baby Brother (brother!!!! I still cannot believe we’re having a BOY) and, once we pick it out, call him by name. The next 20 weeks will busy as we get ready for baby:

  • POTTY TRAINING Millie is just around the corner
  • Moving Millie to a big girl room! We’ll need the crib for brother, and we don’t want her to feel like the baby stole it from her, so we’re hoping to move her into her new bed a few months before brother’s due date.
  • Tweak the baby’s room. It’s pretty much set up already, but we’ll trade out the pink and dandelion decor for a planes, trains and automobiles theme.
  • Name baby. Nate has a favorite name, I like it but I’m not 100% sold yet.

I’ll try to keep blogging along the way to keep you all updated on how things are going here. We’re getting excited for the Holidays and all of the exciting things that are just around the corner.
